Similar to last wipe, I have started running tournaments again. I will run these at random times during the week, when my schedule permits. Due to the fact that casters cannot participate still, I will not be tallying points. For now, these tournaments will be for cash prizes.
Rules as follows:
1. Entry fee is 4K per player. This allows you to fight for 2 rounds, and there is a bank at the arena.
2. No one that is PK flagged may participate.
3. You do not die, you do not lose EXP, you do not lose your gear (with the exception that anything that decays or is fragged during normal tournament fighting will NOT be replaced)
4. Last man standing will win 10,000 of the cash prize. Person with the most kills will win 6,000 of the cash prize. Person with the 2nd most kills will win 4,000 of the cash prize.
5. You may use your own gear, however the arena is set up so NO PREP may be used. You will be autodispelled upon entry to the arena, and no quaffing/reciting/using will work.
6. Very fast decay gear is sold at the arena store. If you are lacking in gear, this stuff is pretty decent to use for fighting with. You are allowed to leave the arena with it, but it will decay very shortly after.
7. You must be AT LEAST level 25 to participate(lower than this really has no chance to win). Clerics, druids, and mages are not permitted to enter for the time being (sorry, but crashing the game is not permitted!). Once the bug with casters in the arena is fixed, we'll hold make up tournaments I hope.
8. Grouping/following is NOT PERMITTED. This is every player for themself. All clan or other affiliations are left OUTSIDE the arena. Anyone seen ganging in lame fashion will be put down like a lame dog. This is your chance to kill your friends and clanmates, to show you are best. This is not a time to further your clan wars or petty grudges.
9. After your fight is over, you WILL be flagged for a short while. Fear not, the flags will not allow anyone to attack you in peace rooms, and they don't usually last more than 15 minutes. I will not remove flags, as you are safe at the inn after the tournament is done.
10. Sign-ups will be take on a first come, first serve basis. Some times it will be a free-for-all for all classes. Other times you might see a fight with only warriors and barbarians, just depends.
11. Betting will be allowed against the house(Sancho). I will take minimum bets of 5K on who you think will be last man standing, have the most kills, or first to die. I reserve the right to accept or deny any bet at the time of the fights.
Questions? Post a reply here.

Re:Tournaments
I suggest making the whole arena city terrain, eg. use 1 move point per room, and/or make a keyword for refresh, or something like that. In the last tournaments I would constantly run out of moves and be a sitting duck waiting for the tick, which many people interpreted as hiding and avoiding fights.

Re:Tournaments
Person with the most kills will win ~35% of the cash prize.
Great addition. My pet peeve with tournaments is the way the scoring is implemented, you're better off avoiding conflict until some of the combatants are injured, where you can go mop up and be last man standing.
Re:Tournaments
Hehe, if theres no second round, then people are going to bitch about sancho only doing something for 10 people again :)
Re:Tournaments
After the last round of the Tournament, there was a 5v5 Team match which was about 400 times as fun as the FFA. I think that it should be looked into as a more interesting way of doing battle.
Re:Tournaments
The idea behind the Last_man_Standing tournament is that its different in all ways from day-to-day PK. Each person for him/herself. You are rewarded for getting a lot of kills, and also for staying alive.
While 5v5 is fun, I don't want the tournament to at all take the place of PK within the game. If I start allowing group vs group pk in a no_risk scenario, it will make people less interested in pking normally when they have more to lose: esp, gear, levels, etc.
I don't think you will see group pk tournaments, unless someone organizes a full blown, real tournament with sign-ups and what not. Bug Phred!

Selecting the winner
How about, if possible, select a winner not by the amount of kills he has scored but by the amount of damage he has dealt? Since people can come in and deal the final blow and have that kill counted for them.

What, you mean like this?
Zug flies in from the west.
324H 145V 1X 0C [Me:Fair] [Raeth:Awful] [Notalya:Awful] Exits:NEW> kic rae
Zug obliterates Raeth with his pierce.
Raeth is mortally wounded, and will die soon, if not aided.
324H 145V 1X 0C [Me:Fair] [Raeth:Dying] [Notalya:Awful] Exits:NEW> kic raeth
Your kick at Raeth's head caves in his head, causing brains and bone to
splatter with wet, crunching sounds.
Twinkling lights surround Raeth and he disappears.
324H 145V 1X 0C [Me:Fair] [Raeth:Awful] [Notalya:Awful] Exits:NEW>

Because you can't track the damage an individual player does to another, except by counting massacres, etc and thats mind numbingly boring and not quite accurate.
