Char Limit

If we're on the topic of upheaving established rules of the mud, I've got one for everyone.

Create a limit of 1 mortal char per person. Get rid of "opt domain 0" or any other method people have of dodging ownership detection. Enforce real emails etc, whatever is necessary. Add an identifier so that if someone had to log other than at home, they could get a quick domain reset.

Boom. Instant fix of trash and storage characters.

Re:Char Limit

What on earth would having only one character accomplish? So you choose your first character and if you want to play another class you'd have to delete and xping before you could do something again?
You can't possibly think that this would be a solution to anything.

Re:Char Limit

It would be a solution, though a painful one for most players.

You can't possibly think that people would still have trash and storage characters if they only had one mortal.

ruining fun

I think having only one mortal character would be an extremely lame idea. Obviously trash characters and storage characters suck, but I for one would have a lot less fun if I was only able to play one character. Speaking as someone who had 4 ranked characters last wipe and working on as many (or more!) this wipe, I enjoy being able to play different classes. As well as the fact that it helps zoning when there aren't very many of your friends around because it gives your group some added versatility. And of course, how else could I use a bunch of full sets of gear? Without multis, you'd have more players like Robb just wasting gear away!

Re:Char Limit

I'm not wasting gear! I'm just um, deadbeating it? Well not right now.. but I will I swear it! j/k

Re:Char Limit

Oh come on Matt, this isn't a great idear. Sure it may fix the trash char thing(which would be good), but this would severly hurt those that play in those small clans or neutrals who can zone those high levels. These type of people usually log whichever char is necessary to complete a group(ie: a basher or a healer depending on what the group needs). Sure for a clan its easy to get a well rounded group, but for others it would make this game really difficult.

I do miss you though Matt.

Re:Char Limit

Ideally a limit of 2, 3 chars max would do this mud a lot of good.

Problem is there are hundreds of ways to get around it thus it is unimplementable.

No way, I would get zapped monthly!

Re:Char Limit

Just remove the rent command. As long as people don't multi, no one will ever have more than one set of equipment.

Thats interesting...

Problem is you'd have uncle lasse and grandpa lucas logging their friend's chars while they're off on vacation. Yay for opt domain 0!

Randomize

Change all loot to load on death and a % chance per item (ie Warrior statue has a minimum of 1 item on death 20% chance shield, 20% boots etc etc etc) and remove the item # caps in game.

It would not eliminate storage characters for purposes of back-up gear but would devalue them as a tool to block other guilds (i.e. Guild <A> gets lucky and gets the first two healers on the mud so goes and maxxes out the pearl & onyx's and deep rents them).

While it would possible to outfit your entire guild in no_bashes given enough time, patients and willingness to go after nothing else, there would be nothing preventing your opposing guild from doing the same. This would at least allow some of the smaller, slower guilds to have a shot at some of the gear that would otherwise be maxxed and deep rented without preventing the local uber clan from doing their thing.

As to trash characters.. make some bounty hunter mobs that track down the 'Wanted' folks.

Re:Char Limit

Liege you are crazy!! Why?:

Every warrior will have Huma's shield and millions of damage.
Every other tank/thief stacked in damage and elite weapons.
Everyone is million heals/no bash etc.

Clan wars almost useless as there is no real rewards except seeing the RIP text. Only thing you would really lose is the xp, but if everyone is macho stacked then you can run mobs like cyan fairly often so it wouldn't matter anyway. Even at 1% loading percentage, all the people who play enough will have what they want.

These are my opinions on this matter, but don't worry Liege, I am crazy too!

Hrm, you really are an ass aren't you 'MitchTza' you act like you know these two people and you are completely talking trash here. I've played with lucas for years now and he's far from a cheater. I've played against lasse for a long time too, and I know he is not one to stoop to cheating.

Know of what you speak or please shut the gaping stinkhole that you call a mouth.

Well, depends on what you would call cheating... he mostly just found interesting features (ie. bugs) and used the game mechanics to their fullest extent. Like when he killed Rhun(?) with summon lag.

Re:Char Limit

i know that if i was limited to 3 chars they'd all be non trash. really i swear.

Yeah finding tweaks in game mechanics can possibly be called cheating, but as annoying as it is to fight Lasse, he's generally honorable.

Martino on the other hand...

Limiting people to 0 characters would solve even more problems.

Hello

Chars

Something should be done to people renting goood equipment for a long time.
Like imms tagging items, and by typing something they could see how long all diamond bracelets have been rented, and then zap em or whatever

Problem has been solved

Something has already been done. Rent decay timers are on virtually all of those top tier items and it's been like that for a long, long while. It took a little fine-tuning in the beginning but now most if not all of the issues have been worked out and it's way better than the previous play-style of "load eq and rent it for the wipe - yay yay yay". Furthermore, I don't think any imm should be zapping anyone unless it's an *extremely* rare circumstance where the rent decay system can't handle "deeprenting"(and I can't think of one). The system should handle itself, with no intervention from the admins. After all, that's the reason it was put in in the first place.

Otherwise, you will get something like this:

This BSP guy with some of the best eq in the game(humas, wyrmslayer, and a ton of other stuff - all top tier gear and all have rent decay timers) has a project to do for his work and he doesn't log in once for 16 days. When he does log in all his eq is 'mysteriously' missing(he had more than enough $ to make his rent)

The rent decay system works fine as it is. Giving imms the job of policing who has what eq and how long they've been in rent is not only redundant, but a waste of that imms time. I'm sure he would rather be doing something else. And, I guess more importantly, it's just destroying any fun. I don't know about you, but if I'm lucky enough to get a diamond bracelet I don't want to have to wonder whether or not I'm going to be zapped because I've had a busy week or two at work.

eqeq

surely it doesnt matter if the playerbase is as small as at the end of last wipe. or the last 5 months..
perhaps i didnt make my point clear enough, but if it does work, then nevermind my last post..
anyhooow some rare items like sharpened steel horns were definately in rent too much.
but its gonna be interesting to see how many will start when it comes up, of course i hope many..
