Paladin paths

Ok here's a sneak preview of the incoming paladin changes. First of all, this is NOT a class revamp. It is an upgrade of a quite well balanced class trying to fix one or two problems, to bring Arctic paladins closer to the Dragonlance Knights of Solamnia and to add some more fun to them. There will be 3 paths (Crown, Sword and Rose) and they will be progressive. Every paladin will be given a quest to become a Knight of the Crown; succeeding this, they may attempt to become Knights of the Sword and eventually of the Rose. The difficulty and complexity of the quests will also be progressive. According to my design, every paladin will be able to become a Knight of the Crown, pretty much like every dk becomes Knight of the Lily. Completing the Sword quest will be harder, most skillful players will find it challenging, but still doable. The quest to become a Knight of the Rose will not be for everyone, similarly to acquiring the high-end caster spells. The rewards will reflect this design.
I will not get into many details about the path rewards, but here are some indications:

- You will be able to rank and train your dragon as soon as you finish the Knight of the Crown quest
- There will be a divine power available to Knights of the Crown (and above) that will increase the rate at which you gain faith. This, combined with the latest change to righteous indignation, should ease the faith problem of paladins since you will be able to cast righteous indignation, zone normally with still perfect faith, and later cast that power and go get your faith back.
- There will be a spell that will be a room version of sanctify corpse, as requested by several people in the ideas file
- There will be divine powers with new effects, not available in any spell or skill currently in the game. There won't be anything offensive though (at least not directly)
- The cap of some skills will be raised, especially some weapon skills, rally and turn.

Everything has been coded already, we're still debating the exact effect checking for balance issues. Once these have been resolved, I will prepare the quests and the paths will become available to the players.

Sounds awesome, but I don't

Sounds awesome, but I don't really like the idea behind righteous indignation, if I read you correctly. I think arctic was more interesting when your alignments restricted what zones you could run and benefit from, adding in ways to get around them and making new mechanics ignore alignment (ranks) seem to be an unnecessarily simplifying of the game, as well as a slap in the face of neutral characters, who work harder to hit 1x for the benefit of being able to kill anything once they get there.

I don't really got anything

I don't really got anything to add... but since no one else has posted anything since Drak I thought I would say Thanks for the work. I love paladin's and I think this is will be a very nice addition to make them more complex and interesting.

I do like the idea for the fath related things since using the pal impunity spell right now kinda sucks hard and isn't really worth it for me. Even less so considering I have a ranked shaman so there's no sense in me hurting my pal's faith just to be able to kill some goodies

Alot really depends on how

Alot really depends on how it's done, but we do trust that you will make it worth it. The quests you do seem to be well done, and the rewards usually are worth it when you say they are. Something you may be considering, that I'd like to suggest is, perhaps at each path acquired, there could be a small hp bump to max hps. So when you get Crown, you get some more hps, when you get Sword you get even more hps, and when you get Rose, you get another bump in hps. The thought being that a Knight of the Rose is more versed in fighting and more sturdy and harder to defeat, not just because of the additional experience he has. Perhaps this is going to be coded in as AC, but paladins already have great AC, and on some mobs, it just doesn't matter what AC you have, they are going to obliterate you multiple times.

Also, it would rule for Rose Knights to get bash... bring some nostalgia back from Arctic of old... just a thought, I think everyone would love it, and if the quest was indeed as difficult as you mention above (on par with high level caster spells), then I don't think it'd be too unbalanced. Perhaps it'd be a scenario where if you chose bash you didn't gain something else, or couldn't use something else... (similar to DK divine powers).

Look forward to seeing the changes come in, and hopefully paladins don't get re-wussified after the paths come in. Kind of stinks they are one of if not the least played classes now, when original paladins were so popular, and obviously paladins so central to the theme of dragonlance.

Enough rambling, but maybe it'll spark some discussion.

I think Aristox said he only

I think Aristox said he only wanted warriors to have bash, which is a bummer.

Just keep in mind that people have been been clanned knights of solamnia for close to a decade and I havent seen any of them stunning recently.

If anyone is going to make

If anyone is going to make it a point to ascend through the ranks of Knighthood, I'm going to bet it'll be KoS.

Walking the Dark Path Alone

I'll make it a point as

I'll make it a point as well. I have had a Paladin every wipe since the revamp and I know I'll be spending almost every moment of my time on the mud to complete the quests.

Sounds awesome. To huge

Sounds awesome. To huge questions/pleas's. Please, if these quests are to be that hard, don't make it like the dk, where if you lose your faith by wacking a good aligned holy mob you have to redo the quest, relearn all the spells. Because if you have to redo each quest again, or a paticularly hard quest, then it's just going to make people trash the character.

Please please please make these quests soloable only like the shaman quest. A knight of solami use to go off alone to quest in the books. But most importantly none of the so called quests that require groups are hard, there just plain frustrating. It basicly involves a neutral getting a group to go, and then to stay and figure out keywords and all that crap, and continue on to the end. Where a clan basicly will just grab a 10 man group and 15 second the zone once they have the keywords down. Which either way is extreamly retarded. This game has had enough of mechanics favoring zerg groups over individual skill.

P.S. You did an exellent job with shamans, so i'll give you the benifit of the doubt.

Whatever you add, I think it

Whatever you add, I think it should focus on the pkilling ability of paladins.
Zoning as a paladin is fine, always been fine. Its the pk part that lacks.

An idea for making the paths quests, just put every boss (rank) mobs into a pool and every paladin gets a draw for 5 midlevel boss kill (crown), 5 midlevel and 5 highlevel boss kill (sword) and 20 high lvl boss kill (rose) which would be different for every characters in game.

I'm hoping the Rose quest

I'm hoping the Rose quest ends up something like the omen quest, which, while I admit I really don't know much about directly, clearly seems to be something that you can largely solo, and can get any help you need without really having to give away much info.
