relearn book removal

now that relearning spells is possible after gaining a rank what do you think about cutting down on relearn books loading? especially on rarer high-end spells where it's easier to gain a rank than to spam it for a relearn

It is kind of annoying to load the relearn book rather than the actual book itself, especially if the fight is a tough one.

Maybe just change it so the loads aren't exclusive by giving them independent load rates so that it would (rarely) be possible to load a spell and a relearn at the same time. Or if that's undesired, make a slightly more complex modification so that if the spell loads the relearn is foomed/negated in some way if it should happen to load as well.

A different way to change the loading algorithm would be to give the load roll more than 2 outcomes. Roll a 1D(max) die, and assign x and y to desired values (based on spell & load location) such that 1 < x < y < max and a roll in the range of:
[1, x) = spell loads
[x, y) = relearn loads
[y, max] = nothing loads

This all assumes some sort of equivalent system does not already exist... I frankly have no idea how the exact mechanics of it work and wouldn't be surprised if one already does.

With all respect Arthelas,

With all respect Arthelas, the question is, who really cares about the mechanics behind it? I mean, if the system loaded relearns independently, and loading them overrides any spells that happen to load, and the imms were clear that this were the case, then I'm sure people would be very unhappy every time a relearn loaded, because they'd be "sure" that their book would have otherwise been up, but ultimately, nothing matters other than the final percentage load rate of the spell. Under your scheme, the main advantage is the psychologically, people will never feel that a relearn stole their book. However, that would only be the case of the scheme were made clear to every player, and the tradition in arctic has to be to obscure the nitty gritty details of implementation. Obviously, depending on the values set, you might load more books, but you can do that simply by changing the variables in the current system as well. Ultimately, all the player can see is how often a book loads, how often a relearn loads, and how often nothing loads.

Also, I would point out that when relearns were put in, the imms changed the load rates so that the base rate of spells loading remained what they wanted it to be, while relearn loaded on top of that. For example, if imms wanted force bolt to load 10% of the time on mob X, and they wanted 1/5 of loads to be relearns, they would jack up the load rate to 12.5%, for a final load of 10% for spell, 2.5% for relearn.

So essentially what this first post is asking for is either a scaling back of the relearn loads because you feel its no longer needed (when you're rank 17, you might change your mind about that), or a blanket increase in the rate of spell loads (which, believe me, I would love, but the rank relearns have no bearing on it.) Ultimately, spells are what they are because of what the imms wanted the balance to be, and not because loading relearns have somehow forced spell loads to "make room."
