Thank you all who made submissions! The turnout really was terrific. In order to present a final choice to the players, a final 5 entries have been chosen. Here they are below:
I think the three moon logo wins in the concept category, but the 'A' doesn't come across very transparently and non-DragonLance readers may not recognize the icon.
The Script 'A' has a nice nostalgic flair, but if we want this icon to attract members, it should probably be treated almost like a banner ad on a website. We want people to click the ad, or enter the game... and I think the most attractive of the five choices is the green eye submission.
Ok, I'll admit it: I voted for the blue dragon eye. I think it's worth mentioning though that I think these far too closely resemble the cover of a book that I've read recently. I can't remember the exact name (might have been Eragon or Eldest) but I do know that it was a close-up of an eye such as this. Food for thought...but it is the best one posted.
The biggest problem with the blue dragon eye is that it's possible that other MUDS also use the dragon eye theme. So our icon might be eerily similar to another MUDs. Thus, I emphasized voting on the most original, if not the "best" icon.
The eye makes me think of a hippo or something like that. It has just a sort of half-asleep, slothful look to it. Pity I didn't finish my icon of a ham wearing a Fez, I would've won for sure... :P
I submitted both the blue eye and the three-moon A and I agree entirely with Terk about a dragon's eye having a potential similarity to some other mud's icon. Actually my original idea for the blue eye was to try to make the eye slit into a dragonlance head, but at 32x32 it just didn't work. I posted it anyway but to be honest didn't really expect it to do well since even though it's visually appealing it has nothing really unique about it.
The idea of the "Three moon A" was to make one which was a) exuding dragonlance and b) definitely unique to Arctic. Sadly the craters on Solinari and the red of Lunitari as I left them could have made better use of the 256 colours now that I look back at them. Anyway, clearly this icon is out of the contest now but if anyone is interested, here is a higher colour res version.

Definitely this would be the winner, really no chance to use it? cause the change of color for Lunitari really makes the difference, this one is RED, the other one was pink... :P
Well the one in my previous comment was 24 bit colour however I've converted it to 256 color gif and seem to have solved the problems. Too late for the contest but here it is in 256 colours if anyone is interested:

I voted for the green eye, tis the nicest, all the other entries suck! Except the Scipt A, which is pretty cool I guess - but not as wicked cool as the green eye. Who the fuck came up with the blue and red eye, sheesh. Speaking sheesh, anyone here like sheesha? I know I like sheesha. Sweet merciful crap-shit, vote the green or I will kill your family with a toaster while you watch!
