the last long time mud seems to be lagging for all Europa based player, Tregar has informed me that the reason for this is tomany college guys suffing for porn instead of studying when getting off from school. Maybe change server to one who not so filled? (private college is a option maybe?). Hope something can be done, since its anoying like hell !!
Thank you.

Ping from Europa
I think your problem is that round trip ping from Europa is 2 hrs minimum. Besides, I'd imagine out there you're a big consumer of porn too.
Okay, okay, I've no business poking fun at someone's language. I'm sorry.
Re:Mud lags !!
The server lags because you touch yourself at night.
There, I said it. Altho a more likely reason is that there's a problem with the route the european connections go through.
Re: European Lag
I was told that the Lag was introduced to balance playing skill by continent.
European players are generally 20% better than North American counterparts, so a 20% lag time was given to European players.
:p

We suck! According to your metrics, back in 1997-1999, we the European players were on average 50-80% better than the North Americans. If the trend continues, they will soon dominate the MUD!
Re:Mud lags !!
It's more likely that you're playing during peak usage times in the US due to the whole timezone thing. With any luck the link to the university the mud is hosted at will be upgraded soon.
In the meantime, "peak" time when the link kinda sucks seems to be between 1000 and 1800 EST.

Thanks for the real answer. Much appreciated.
To help me get through the lag, I put on clothes that are 10 years old, listen to some 10 year old music, and pretend i'm on dial up like 10 years ago. And when ever anyone dies from my suckage healing, I claim lag out!
WHEE!
Re:Mud lags !!
So what kind of outdated connection does Rutgers have then Scrap? Is the entire campus on an outdated T1 line or what?
Re:Mud lags !!
Actually Mal, I'm pretty sure it's been stated already on another thread that's pretty much the identical to this one. Rutgers is on inet2, and I can say that most any university that is participating in that also has -top notch- inet connection anyway. If you people like to complain so much, channel that creative energy and create yourself a way to the nearest inet2 participant and mud with 10 ms pings.
--
And as you can see, I am not one of the ones so fortunate enough to be in a university that is a participant in inet2. Americans get the same lags as Euro's during these hours, and it's just as bad, too.
Re:Mud lags !!
I don't think the reason there are more complaints from European players is because the lag is any different than for US players. It's because of when in the day the "lag time" falls. It starts and ends during the US working day, meaning that it only affects those who play predominantly from work. But for European players the lag starts when the working day ends and goes away in the middle of the night, meaning that without playing from work or in the hours before dawn there is no "playable" time for Europeans during weekdays anymore.
Re:Mud lags !!
Myte, Internet2 doesn't mean much for users who aren't also on it.
Also, I2 doesn't mean they're using the best connection that exists, it doesn't work like that. Take Pitt and CMU for example, they're next to each other, and CMU's network and link to the rest of the world, is consideribly better (and they have less students there, meaning even more bandwidth per computing needs).
Rutgers being able to get bogged down should be a good indication for you about that. Also, I2 doesn't solve the lag issue, as I would lag just as much as anyone else when the server is bogged during peak times.
For the next few weeks, there shouldn't really be a problem, students at Rutgers are home on break now(?), and most faculty are too, so the bandwidth usage during the peak time should be down a decent amount.
Only way the lag will be fixed is with a connection upgrade, and the community college near where I live uses inet2 also, so no, it's not a top-notch only thing. :P

You're assuming that mudders in america all mud after work hours, and that all euros only mud after their work hours, etc. A lot just don't work so this is a bigger problem than just a euro problem, this affects americans in a bad way too. It's unfortunate, but if you step back and look at the situation you can realise that it's a real problem and not just some propaganda ;)

True. A lot of Americans are just lazy bums who sit at home all day playing on the 'Net.
Re:Mud lags !!
people are also assuming that every person in the world is busy at the same time
on the same days
the world doesnt revolve on m-f 9-5
Re:Mud lags !!
Internet lag is so 1992.
Stone age.
Att: Scrappinak
My timezone is bacisly lagged from start to end, are you doing anything to try to fix this problem?! Ive heard no attempt to try to fix this!. If its outta of your hands plz let me know so i can start looking for other games, cus this isnt acceptable at all.
Re:Mud lags !!
I can't tell you if they're looking at it or not, but as far as I can tell, the lag is coming from the Sprint link to Rutgers. I'm not sure how much control they have over that particular segment of the link.
It also looks like users that are coming over I2 or other educational nets aren't experiencing any lag (since they don't hit that bump).
Re:Mud lags !!
The university will have a significant increase in bandwidth sometime this month, as promised. I cannot give you an exact date. Sorry about the latency/packet loss.
Re:Mud lags !!
WHen I was at Pitt, I noticed 'lag' even on I2, altho it was more of a 'jump from 15ms to 30ms' thing, so that sprink route isn't just the only thing.
I miss my 15ms Arctic link, it's back up to 50ish now at my home. :(
Re:Mud lags !!
Lag should end sometime this month after Dyl completes his downloading of the entire girls gone wild video series (all 445 episodes, including girls gone wild island)
Re:Mud lags !!
They have their own Island!?!?!?
Do you have to be a hot drunk college chick to go there?
I think lag is cool!
Re:Mud lags !!
Suffer in silence.

Thanks very much for the update.
Update?
Hi, February seems to have come and gone, any chance of an update on the pipe upgrade situation?
Cheers

Wish I had one. I assure you
Wish I had one. I assure you that about 60k users at the university are wondering the same thing, heh.
