Game Ideas / Re: Ranks and expanding on the end-game

More options are always good. Customizing your character to your playing style makes playing more fun. Also, why is there a limit on ranks? It is pretty challenging to get to rank 50, just make it continue to drop 10% rank per kill for each rank past 50 so the people who invest the most time in their characters don't quit at some arbitrary number.

I've made a post already about progressing your character more with newer/different ranks to strive for that actually feel like your character got stronger/better

I think the mystic vault changes this wipe were a good example of how keyword changes should happen. Everyone had to start over and resolve the zone, and it took a group of people working on it pretty continuously to finally solve it. I think those sorts of changes should happen every wipe for the most powerful items.

It should take people time and effort each wipe to earn the most powerful items regardless of clan affiliation, personal friendships, etc. It also means that no clan can just win the first week and monopolize the elite shinies. A similar vein runs through the decays this wipe - it is hard to monopolize the elite gear because most of it decays within a few weeks.

While these changes might seem frustrating they actually make the game more fun for a casual player who is not in an elite clan because gear is loading most of the time. If you don't want to deal with decays then just collect less elite gear. You can cobble together a decent set which lasts 6 weeks to 2 months without decaying, but if you want a crapload of +dam realize you are going to need to commit a lot of time to maintaining that set.

Legend is rank 25, and I am typically 27 or 28 on a paladin before righteous will hits superb. Full legend ranks and steelskin is rank 32 or so (I think). I like that you still need to rank a little after legend to fully realize your tank - it makes people invest a little longer.

If people could legend and immediately have steelskin and full legend ranks they would all quit at 26 instead of 32. Part of the challenge of Arctic is trying to achieve legend, but people often quit pretty soon after they reach it.

I guess, for me, the real question is what would it take to keep people playing? What do you think?

Newbie Area / Re: zone question

thanks.  i know a couple of those but hopefully the others will give us something to try exploring that is little less deadly than some others we have been trying.

ive played this game off and on for a long time and know a decent amount, but ive never been very good at it.  right now im playing with 2 friends but we have been struggling to play 2 characters effectively.  it is great for the easy stuff but in a hard fight that extra character usually becomes pretty useless.

ive been playing steelskin barb and cleric and my friend usually plays ocean + cleric.  if our 3rd guy is around he plays basher thief.  all level 30 except basher/thief which are level 28.

What's up dude, not sure if you are new or a returning player, what kind of characters are you working with?

A few 'high' zones that are comparable to drac tower/dko off the top of my head:

Balcombe's lair, celestial temple, flying citadel, forgotten temple, forest shrine, kharolis mines, pirate's island

If you see Niar or Mikasa on, hit me up and I can help with some zones or toss some gear that I may have found during my adventures!

Newbie Area / zone question

looking for any advice on which 'high' zones maybe arent so high lol.

can do like dko and drac tower without too much problem.  and then we try to explore other stuff like vingaard river which is technically mid-high? and we just die over and over again.

can someone recommend maybe a zone or two for weaker high level players to explore?

It may be going away, but it hasn't gone away yet, and right now my level 30 mage is casting at level 19, which is pretty ineffective.

April 12, 2019

A little late on getting these in, but some new helpfiles have
     been added to the game:

                       HELP AREA CREATOR ALECTO
                       HELP AREA CREATOR ANISTA
                       HELP AREA CREATOR FLAIR
                       HELP AREA CREATOR GYP
                       HELP AREA CREATOR HORTON
                       HELP AREA CREATOR IADUS
                       HELP AREA CREATOR KAM
                       HELP AREA CREATOR KHOLOS
                       HELP AREA CREATOR WILLOE

There are another two additional helpfiles available:

                       HELP AREA FARHOLM
                       HELP AREA TRADE

However these two zones themselves will not be in the game until
     sometime this weekend..

Thank you very much to everyone who put in the work that these
helpfiles point to, we apologize for getting these helpfiles on
the specific creators in the game so late. We are proud of the
work these creators have done and prouder still that so many
different people are actively making contributions to the game
for all of us to enjoy.

We look forward to their future efforts, as well!

General Discussion / Re: Revamps Vs. New Zones

re: "Newbie content"

In the grand scheme of the history of the game, there is more mid-high/high 1-3 man doable "newbieish" content than has ever existed in the game (losing 1-3 zones to upgrades, which may not actually be the case if you explore them, seems like a small price). To me it seems like a bit of an albatross to see these concerns. Tons of the zones added to the game in the last 20 years are easily explorable as 1-3 man regardless of skill levels.

The game, at its peak popularity, for newbieish players was basically that you leveled on Palanthas or Kalaman city guards until you were barely high enough to be able to do Que Kul, Solamnic Outpost, Vry-kith, Gulfport, and Dargonesti and then you did those zones almost non stop for the rest of your characters life. You'd be thrilled to get taken to Shayd's, but there was high risk of death (lots of high level mages had like 120 hp). You could be added as the 20th member to a group going after Walcanar for stoneskin, but you'd invariably die to Aegis' prisms and the horrible healing.

If you were good aligned, you did sort of the same thing, except there were no guards to level on, so you had to spend a lot of time in Goblin Camp, Ogre Camp, Slaith Swamp, Xak, Gargath Keep (Kyst on the loose used to put the fear of god into half the mud), Faerie Kingdom, Blacken/Icen--greenen was way too hard, Lemish and Galazor were the apex of newbie zoning. Drac tower was near guaranteed death with those damn sivak's one stabbing half the group.

Today, with current character sturdiness, there are so many more leveling options and so many added zones the outcry about these "newbie" friendly zones seems comical. Most newbie teams could explore the majority of high zones in the game, but the sheer diversity of easy mid-high content that can be soloed is amazing. My advice is to just type help area and pick something you don't know.

I do kind of agree that one thing I loved as a newbie was killing dragons: the ancient red in the Plains of Solamnia was one of the "fun" things I got to when enough friends logged on. Maybe not all dragons should be developed with 5 legendary chars in mind, but I'll leave that to the people who actually work on the game now!
