I recently returned to the game and I've been keeping myself busy trying to puzzle through a few old zones and interesting quests. I've forgotten a whole lot since the late 90's!
Anyway, I've hit a wall trying to gain entry into the thieves guild below Palanthas. I managed to work my way through a bunch of the entryway puzzles, but now I'm racking my brain to recall the appropriate way to convince Murf, the hungry gully dwarf guard, to let me through the final door into the guild itself.
If anyone out there could give me a hint or a nudge in the right direction, I'd greatly appreciate it!

Nevermind. I figured it out. :)

i'd try giving him the password
it's probably some thing really really super secret though
but it has to be something a gully dwarf can remember too...

Indeed. :) I forgot how fun this zone is. Now I'm trying to figure out how to open the guildmaster's safe. I feel like the legs on his desk must come into play somehow...
-
That is one of my favorite mid zones. One of the gems.

Noryl did a really good job with that one

Yeah, so much detail. I think I've got everything but the safe figured out. Thought maybe Geoffrey's fast-decay dagger would be involved in unlocking it or hacking the desk apart. Secret compartment on the desk? Boggle.
Side note: Is there something going on in the high mage's room that I don't know about? There are a lot of descriptions in his room but nothing actionable that I've found.

If you're looking for a key I'd try checking places for a hollow compartment. Maybe if you did something it would let you hear where there was a hollow spot...

I seem to have hit a similar roadblock. I've spent more than a few hours saying different things to Murf and trying other things to get the key out of the groove, but nothing seems to work. Is there something I'm missing?

I would tell you but it's a super secret password

Just tell the poor kid. That keyword is stupid. Rednax, the actual keyword(s) is given in above post.
