Title: difference between arctic vs succesful mmorpg
Post by: Khad on December 10, 2013, 06:51:24 PM
intro: i'm a solo player.  you know arctic is fun when you play solo. usually group leader using you as a tool and keeps all decent gear. no matter if you could lead that zone better or you died or youre mvp.

difference table:
                                                  arctic   succesful mmorpg
online                                           50           millions
donate                                        few          millions
pwipe                                        1/year       none
decays                                      1/week      none
load limit on non-elite gear           yes            no
friendly interface (client-mapper)  no           yes
stupid pk flag system when you cant defend yourself besides flee/rent
                                                     yes             no
losing progress (any other way)   yes            no
being pked by reed and gang twice a day   yes      no
revamped zones                   yes             no
new zones                            no             yes

those the reasons i quit after playing solo 24/7 for 10 years

suggestions:
no pwipes. let chars rot and die due to race aging.
instead of pwipe - wipe elite gear&spells for a period of 2 weeks or a month (random). people play with shop gear and native spells for that period of time. again, all elite gear and spells are noload for that random period.

come on, i'm 35, i just dont want to invest time into nothing. just let me keep my chars for 3+ years, remove stupid gear load limits for nonelite gear and remove stupid decays. i just want to play once a week and still get some fun. bored of logging just to pop decays, having no time to play for fun.

ps. you cant beat my runglish!

I did actually - it's permanent death, very simplistic and addictive if you really get into it.

I'd compare arctic to ROTMG over any other mmorpg on the market. Why are you comparing a game created and maintained by 2-3 people to a game created and maintained by tens of thousands?

That game alone actually inspired me to create something of my own, similar in nature, as a fun "side project". Unfortunately all of my schooling and experience is in application development and I couldn't find the time to take the leap forward into learning how sprite interaction works.

then i suggest you should try adom, its better.
arctic is way better, even excluding multi user factor. other way I would never have registered on this forum. corey i know you are the one of those 10ppl who will stay in a mid wipe trying to 3man 10man zones when all elite gear in deep storage. we say about different things. i think arctic is worthy of playing by thousands people, but some things stopping people to play for fun. arctic for now is more like a hard work taking much time without guaranteed result.

You know wrong. I'm one of those people who will early wipe try to 3man things with mid-tier gear. I don't play after week 6. I keep one set and it's the one I wear the entire time I play.

multiing

edit*

i take that back, probably nothing. multiing would make my time more enjoyable though

i have created 3 proxys for multing with some servers under my control. but never used any. they are still working. its much more fun when you group real people.

Absolutely.

again, arctic is great game. but reasons listed in 1st post are flushing out busy people. corey, are you hunting easy load limit 3 fast decay +1 stat +affect item? solo player will try to store all of same items, especially if its a set. and when you entering game in midwipe youre doomed to be naked for a weeks because those simple gear heavilly spammed. thats what i'm talking about. arctic for now just not for 100+ people. i have met new/returning players and they just could not load any simple ++ gear because those items spammed. theres not enough decent gear, and theres too many trash items from not-so-easy mobs. i can totally spam and store all loads from dozens of mobs, thats no good. i think low-mid tier gear should have more limits, or better no limits.

I'm sorry man I lost you...that run-on was too much.

Let's just agree to disagree.

There's one difference that really matters: graphics. The rest of that list was basically bullshit.

I actually agree with the load limit on mid tier gear. Why are items limit 4-6? I think anything that has a load limit greater than 2 or 3 right now should probably be unlimited.

Remember that wipe where everything above 2-3 was unlimited? You had a bunch of trash chars running around and when they died and lost their crappy unlimited gear, they just pulled another set off an alt and went back at it.

Graphics. I find games like WoW to be vastly inferior in terms of immersion. Eve comes close due to its complexity. It has graphics but you're generally fighting in a big black void.

The same comparison can be drawn to books and movies. Movies require less imagination.

Arctic draws the imaginative and the psychos...the only two types of people who can envision themselves as gilded dragon ninjas because a few lines of text say it when we type "Score" & "EQ".

If arctic wants to be a successful niche product we should all chip in for banner advertisements on Mensa and various mental institution web pages.

I agree, the mentally incompetent are a vast untapped network of potential arctic players.  Also, it would improve the sanity level compared with the current playerbase.

I like where your heads are at!

However, I'm taking the wipe off and actually downloaded EQ2 and Eve Online over the last few days.  I guess its kinda like chewing nicotine gum.
