Clairvoyance is a historic arctic mud spell. 20 years ago if your clan had a mage and they got Clairvoyance it was almost as good as getting prism. When the robed system was first introduced, Clairvoyance was broken and didnt work for a very long time and graciously some coder fixed the issue and now Clairvoyance works pretty well. The issue I have with the spell is that it puts a 15 minute flag on the caster 100% of the time, (whether you landed a successful clair or not, whether the victim saves or doesn't save etc). Now it might seem reasonable that clair should always flag but the issue is that with the current mechanics of the game its very obvious to anybody with half a brain whats going on whether they save or not. Explanation: With specialized robes, theres just not that many people with high level red robes. If you see a red robe flagged by himself, you know 100% he is using the spell Clairvoyance. Now that everybody can play 2 characters at once, theres never going to be an instance where a red robe tries to solo pk somebody so if the red robe was flagged due to pk, he wouldn't be the only person flagged. So basically whether you landed a save or not is irrelevant. All you need to do is check the who list and if there is a flagged red robe you can be 100% certain he's trying to ascertain a location. And by any basic knowledge of the current political structure you can figure out who said mage is Clairvoyancing rather easily.

My solution to this situation: Please only flag the caster of the spell Clairvoyance if the victim lands a saving throw. And for historical reference, pre robed mages Clairvoyance didn't flag at all.
Thanks for your time.

"pvp" is so stupid in this game.

a spelled mage can just relocate to me wherever i am in an instant and have both of my guys cc'd before i know what is happening.  there is nothing sporting or interesting about it.  its an execution.  and then after i re-enter the game he kindly lets me know he didnt loot.  he didnt even want my stuff.  so why did he do it?

even if i wanted to fight back (which i dont) the power gap between him and me is so huge i would never be able to kill him.  and if i tried it would probably just excite him making him kill me more and more.

you cant even call this pvp.  this is more like a full grown man seeing some kids having fun playing basketball so he takes their ball and kicks it onto the roof.  because making them suffer is fun.  and what can the kids do to him really?  in this park that kind of behavior is allowed.

its pretty rare to get randomed in this way, but it doesnt feel good. if i want to keep playing this game i have to just cross my fingers that maybe no one will kill me today.  while at any moment on a whim, a sociopath can just come and destroy my fun in seconds.  Or i can just go play basketball somewhere else.

Well, if somebody relocated to you, they were lagged for an entire round giving you time to perform an action against that player. You either have to bash\lag\stun them or recall. Fight or flight. Arctic for the time being is still a game that requires some skill and quick thinking. I have gotten pked this wipe to two black robes relocating to my group. It sucks when you aren't paying attention and dont react quick enough but it is indeed on you. The immortals have added several ways to combat being nightmared but depending on your classes you may not have the right setup to counter them. If you dont, you need to be aware of who is logged on the game and where the danger lies. Arctic is only fun when danger is involved. The game is waaaayyy too simple from a pvE aspect without the pvp. The game was designed around pvp, not pvE. You cannot be an elite player in arctic without having at least a strong awareness of how to avoid\react to being attacked. Every old school player in this game has been pked more times than they can count. Im sure ive died in pk over 200-500 times. Learn from your mistakes and improve.

I think what is lacking is a disclaimer and a expectation set for casual new players. A warning of some sort so that hours and hours of game time doesn’t disappear in a couple rounds of meaningless pk overkill.

In this case, the public stance is ignorance is not an excuse. Playing this game and  ignoring the existence of randomers that might and will take all your effort from you in 4 seconds flat is unwise.

How does a normal player deal with this? Some already gave their advice. For a peaceful zoning group to coexist with others, you need as many survival techniques:
1. Be efficient in leveling from ground up. The more technical you are in leveling from lvl 1 and from a DT, the faster you are in getting back to the same moment you got pk or Dt or death in zone.
2. Be friendly to different clans. Most randomers have been around and been in your shoes. If you know his main char, its less likely you will get hit.
3. It is also easier to get access to xp and ranks and items if you are good with other clans. All you need is an access to easy coins.
4. Have 2 sets of characters. One for exploring unknowns and one for popping items. That way, you can be caught idling trying to solve a zone and not worry about losing good items.
5. Have triggers that auto recall whenever someone aggros you. Especially relo or casting spell. Better be safe than sorry.
6. Many players will tell you, knowledge is more important than a few unrecoverable deaths. Again this goes back to #1. You need to be efficient and keep the leveling as procedural as possible. Make a plan of all the things you need to hit from level 1 to legend.
7. Lastly, this game will never get rid of the pk mechanic. You need to take the precautions on your side to enjoy this game. It’s not that bad really.

Hope you will stay around with your friends.

I think your #5 is now illegal against the anti-trigger\botting rule isnt it? But Gulca makes a good point, much of this game is diplomacy. Nobody wants to kill a friend... well most dont anyway. And another thing to add, you may want to consider doing zones where you can lock yourself in the zone. Obviously thieves can pick their way in but most randomers will be way too lazy for that.

NEWS / November 3, 2021 --- !!! PWIPE ANNOUNCEMENT !!!
« Last post by Anista on November 04, 2021, 04:35:53 AM »
                --- THIS IS A PWIPE ANNOUNCEMENT ---

We hope you earned your fill of candy and treasures from the Halloween
event! The Haunted Mansion vanished and the Candy Collector returned home
until next year.

As Arctic enters 30 years of development, we'll be closing another chapter
in the game's rich history books. The posting for new immortal applications
is also closed at this time.

Sunday November 28th, at approximately 1:00PM UTC (system time), you will
all be deleted. Arctic will remain closed to mortals until Friday, December
3rd at 11:00PM UTC.

Here are a few teasers for things to come in the new wipe:
- Several zones have either been expanded or received a full redesign.
Expect some new, elite level challenges!
- Additional holiday instances will be introduced.
- A few additional item sets will be added.
- The 'dynamic items' system will be reworked to roll a bit more favorably
and many load locations will have changed.
- A variety of other changes are coming, including the return of a
   racial age bonus system.

We'll let you know the full development details following your timely
demise. Please try to keep the chaos and random pkiling under control until
the final hours of the wipe.

Lastly, the immortal staff are busy with developments during this time:
annoying the staff, pestering them for buffs, or asking them for inside
information about the wipe may result in an early personal pwipe at their
discretion! No reimbursements.

Thanks for choosing Arctic!

Game Knowledge / Re: Class Specific Item Set

Is it just me or full scout set looks inferior to other class sets?
I definitely notice the difference with 4/6 set but 6/6 looks weak compared to warrior or shaman set. Though it feels the easiest to collect.

i dont even really blame the player....well maybe a little bit.

but there are jerks in any game.  the real question is why is it allowed?  for the price of 2 ticks of mem one asshole can erase hours and hours of work from me with no risk and no consequences.   and he could do it again every day if he chose.  if i was stupid enough to keep playing that is.  i am expected to do what? beg this person for mercy?  or maybe just put my head down and continue playing and just accept that whenever they feel like it other players can to ruin my progress with little to no effort?

i cant even imagine how many players the game has lost to this.

to be fair...that guy prolly put in waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more hours than you did bro
you will learn to recall when someone relos to you and learn to highlight randomers so that when they come on you are more careful
or maybe join a clan they will protect you or you can hire corey as a mercenary

Sorry, yeah, I meant Old.Corey, or randoming Corey. :) The version prior to the currently, friendly zoning Corey. Lost a few sets to Old.Corey. :)

Oh, my sweet summer child.  Be glad you didn't play when Rise, or Corey, or highlight by association pk were things.

Yes, it sucks to eat the random hit, and that guy was a duck for doing it.  But, it is a rarity these days. The imms have helped with this quite a bit after 25 years of "PK is holy, we must not interfere."

Hey I'm still playing. You can call him old_Corey. Or young Corey, whatever you prefer. I don't do that anymore.

At least not as long as I'm not playing a thief...
