I'm wondering what the general playerbase prefers, so i thought I'd throw out the questions:

1) what is your favorite zone, and why?
2) what is your favorite FIGHT, singular, and why?

it'd be nice to know what other people like / don't like. reply in this thread with your answers!

My favorite zone however is Dunmir,  why because it is long and everybody has to be paying attention or be ate by spiders

My favorite fight...  I don't really have one.. I just like zones with a lot of aggressive mobs that also makes people pay attention or die.  anyway go bapt yourself

my favorite zones

1. heal quest
pro: solo fights, can win without prep, death risk can be reduce drastically with fast preps, and with enough patience you can win it. cr is relatively easy.
con: some bug in zone code where you have a chance to end up with either tons of dracs and one/two dracs wanderers.

2. shaman quest
pro: solo fight, and forces you to think how to fight to win. can win with little prep
con: a lot tougher to figure out if you start from fresh and no hints. sucks if die and have to wait for repop.

3. new dargard keep
pro: simple layout, lots of trackers with lock doors. with a little planning and understanding you can avoid direct confrontation if you have a small group. a lot of unique mobs and pretty decent items.
con: hrm can't think of any.

Singular fight
group fight: golden whale and her calves
Although I only seen it once, it was a memorable fight. We had 4 clerics and somehow survived mass sleep, spell lost, spell disrupts etc with no deaths. It was more fun than say Cyan?

solo fight:
Trying to solo old Lord Soth with 3 X corpse + gatie. Got him down to v.bad before corpses finally decayed. Went back in a few days later to retry, and he entry PWK me. Lost all my stuff with no hope of cr.
pros: it is like playing russian roulette.
cons: it IS russian roulette.

From a solo player's point of view.

Favourite zone: Old Sahuagin reef when there was a level cap to enter.
(at least that is the way i remember it)
It was tough on the V and you were not worried about having a group
or high level player rolling over you.

Favourite fight: any of the conclave test fights, the first time around.
Like a group fight that needs prep.  Thinking about the correct actions and orders
of spells makes a huge difference.

Bmobs would be my favourite fight if it were more difficult.

Favourite zoneS...a few hold my heart:
Galazor
Qualinesti (I wish it were more complete)
Xak'Tsaroth (I wish it were more complete)
Sanction
ToT (I wish the rewards didn't suck so much)
Draconian Tower (I wish the rewards were less good and the limits higher)

I don't know why.

Keep in mind I am pretty new to this game. My favorite zone is probably the Conclave tests. I really got hooked on this game through the conclave tests. It's where I learned that there was more to the game than just randomly killing things. It made me get in the habit of slowly reading the descriptions, looking in every nook and cranny, and closing my eyes and really imagining the room in my mind. Maybe this zone isn't really that exciting for a veteran player, but to a noob with zero MUD experience, this is a beautiful zone. The only downside of course is that it is effectively a "single player" zone, which drops M in MUD.

My other favorite zone: Deep Mine. It is rich with stories, descriptions, and attitude. There is still so much there I don't know despite so many hours of exploring. Plus it is quite accessible to a novice player. Kagonesti/Dargonesti/Sahuagin are also nice though I am still exploring them. Of course I havent been to or soloed/lead many of the harder zones in the game (uth, hct, silvanesti, etc), so it's quite possible this list will eventually change!

Can't say I have a "favorite" solo fight ... anything that requires strategy, planning, thinking, and a healthy dose of risk is always fun.

I'm a little late to the party but I thought I would add my 2 cents.

1. Favorite zones has to be northern ergoth. Especially with the "new" updates it got when the shaman stuff was added. Lots of cool quests, and best of all you can actually figure them out without having to ask someone. Maybe a little low level but I still manage to spend some time there each wipe, and it holds a special place in my MUD heart because the werewolf zonelet was probably the first quest I ever figured out, and when I got the battle blade the first time it was the best weapon I had ever had by far at that point in my career.
I also enjoy the new dargaard, really like the new sahuagin/dargonesti/blood shoal area as well. Deep Mine is pretty fun but I really wish some of the keywords weren't so obscure, I mean I figured out the pal sewer thief zone and planes of vaasmarg but DM just owns me:)
And while it isn't 1 zone i think the idea behind the druid set is amazing. It would be awesome if there were more sets of that were obtained in the same way.
And Crystal Quest
And OLD graknar, not the I'm hating on the new one, just loved the old.
2. Favorite fight ... Avatar in luni used to be so hard or so easy.. or easy until it was awful then it stunned twice and everyone died... also any 'boss' fights where a dragon comes as backup
solo ... I always thought grabbing a couple heal pots and a fs scroll and soloing the knight for the lily quest to be extremely satisfying.
Also mobs like Grisk?(morti), Boran, Trachyte etc. were fun because you could be winning and have a plan and then they lag spec you over and over and you die. So, while they aren't too hard, they can be randomly risky.

4. Fav player : evil tim cos he is so evil and every game needs a villain

Favorite Zones - I love zones that are true to the books and one zone that is really fun for me is Pax. It's so cool to be running through the a zone and it feels like you are going page by page through the book.

Other favorites - Largus (one of the first group zone I learned to lead.), bandit camp and pal thief guild (for similar reasons, but those zones taught me how to figure things out), recently Castle Uth Wistan and the whole Paladin quest. So fun!

Favorite Fights - Those with a high WTF factor. Some of the scout instincts and Newport Mobs fit the bill on a lower scale, but anything that makes my jaw drop open during the fight is a fun one.

1.  Enstar Bay was probably my favorite solo zone.  The reason being is that there was a lot of semi useful things in the zone, always seemed to be something else to the zone that if you spent enough time you would figure it out, as well as just being decent ranks.  There were a lot of just little cool things that made the zone fun and interesting.

  Favorite group zone was probably Pax or Dunmir for a lot of the same reasons.

2.  Solo fight was probably Tryaline in Enstar Bay...that evil spirit was just mean.
     
  Group Fight is probably Mystic Vault fight.  Just tons of things that could go wrong, but also various strategies that could be used to make life a lot easier.

Favorite solo fight/quest - final paladin rose fight, 24 ticks of combat!  I've won it 5x and every time my heart rate still goes up

Favorite group fight - Sleet on a 5-man.  Nothing like getting used as bait and hoping that the shaman can rit you out before you die.

Favorite low zone - sirrion caverns cuz it was the first zone i ever had to truly explore and move past hack-and-slash

Favorite mid zone - Dargaard Valley - tons of no-exit spin rooms give you a sense of accomplishment once you figure it all out.
