February 28, 2020 - Wipe 20!
« on: February 28, 2020, 01:03:12 PM »
February 28, 2020

                            Welcome to Arctic.

                        You have all been deleted.

                           Welcome to Wipe 20.

There have been a lot of changes made to the game, please read the news
post from February 18th for more of the wipe change details, or check
the Development News section of the forum where a comprehensive list
will be posted for the changes made for this wipe.

Here's the stuff we didn't mention before:

  GENERAL:

 - Class sets return to the game this wipe. Each piece will have
   randomized stats.
The bonuses for each set as a whole will be static.
 - We removed a very much beloved rank purchase. You will hate us for
   this.
 - Dozens of new rank purchases have been added to the rank merchant, many
   of them are class-specific.
 - Player spells will no longer frag objects carried by mobiles.
 - Mobiles can still frag your objects. Other players can, too.
 - Many evil mobiles throughout the game have adopted a slightly more
   neutral attitude.
 - Numerous spells have been reclassified into more sensible spheres.
 - Many brew/scribe 'recipes' have been changed to reflect this.
 - Brewed potions and scribed scrolls have had a facelift. You will love
   us for this.
 - Kantar has been given a pay raise. He will now work more hours.
 - We added more dragons. We added some things that aren't dragons but are
   also scary.
 - Dragons are scary, and they are many. Be cautious, we recommend it.
 - The thing we mentioned about dragons is for real, you should be afraid.

  BARBARIANS:

 - Folds in space and mirror images are no longer safe from 'assail'.
 - Magic weapons can now be sharpened by skilled barbarians.
 - Legendary barbarian dances now apply IMMUNE_FEAR.
 - You can now mend and sharpen MAGIC items and weapons.

  CLERICS:

 - Animated corpses are better at water sports.
 - Animated corpses are always a part of the cleric's group.
 - The damage from cause critical will now be more critical.
 - The damage from flamestrike will be more striking.
 - The gate mobiles are a little bit better.
 - The duration and healing power of healing mist have been increased.
 - A new skill, 'divinity' has been aded to the game. See HELP SKILL
   DIVINITY for details.
This skill is a 'proof of concept' kind of thing and will likely change
extensively in the future, but it should be pretty cool as it is.

  WARRIORS:

 - Legendary punch won't disorient anymore, but may knock some fools down.
 - Legendary Warriors no longer receive innate IMMUNE_DISARM. It's
   EXTRA_ATTACK_CHANCE now.
 - The Legendary Disarm rank now includes IMMUNE_DISARM as one of its
   bonuses.

  DARK KNIGHTS:

 - The 'drain' skill will now always work on immobile targets.
 - The fearsome blue dragon friends of theirs have some new rank purchases
   available.

  THIEVES:

 - A successful 'coup' will now also allow the target to be unbalanced.
 - The 'fade' skill can only be used by players in combat.

  SCOUTS:

 - Legendary scouts will no longer experience lag when logging in.
 - Legendary instincts will no longer be lost after reincarnation.
They will remain unusable until legendary is achieved again.
 - The 'griffon' instinct will apply extra attack chance instead of haste.
 - The 'manticore' instinct bonus has been reduced.
 - The 'wolverine'/'anger' damage bonus has been reduced.
 - The 'worg' chance for 'thrash' to knock people down has been reduced.
 - The Legendary Worg rank is dead. Long live Legendary Yeti. See HELP
   LEGENDARY SCOUT.

   DRUIDS:

Wipe 19 was very good to druids. It was nuts, but great to see them on
top for once. That being said, everyone should have known this was
  coming:

 - Druid spells frag objects again, but not those carried by mobiles.
 - Some spells have changed circles.
 - All tablets have been changed and load locations may differ.
 - Hitpoints for druids have been reduced slightly, mostly at level 1.
 - Legendary enlarge bonuses and affects were reduced.
 - The 'enlarge' spell had its duration and benefits reduced.
 - The duration and effects of 'commune with nature' were reduced.
 - The duration of 'veil of ice' has been increased.
 - The damage for 'thorn spray' will now appropriately scale with level.
 - 'sustenance' can now be cast on others at level 15.
 - The duration of 'healing cloud' has been reduced slightly.
 - The damage for 'granite hands' has been reduced slightly.
 - The 'cultivate' spell will now heal less effectively.
 - The maximum damage possible from 'call of lightning' has been reduced.

  SHAMANS:

 - Shamans will start with less hitpoints, but gain slightly more when
   levelling.
 - The 'banish' skill is no longer a legendary requirement. Wimps.
 - The 'control' skill now allows for three spirits, up from two.
 - Spirits are slightly weaker as a result.
 - The legendary control rank grants one additional spirit, down from two.
 - The 'transmogrify' spell will now work with four active spirits.

  MAGES:

 - Magic Users shouldn't be able to sneak past level 10 without the
   Conclave's blessing.
 - All robes will gain slightly more hitpoints while levelling.
 - Tethered characters will now respect movement & room restrictions.
 - The range for 'astral beacon' has been increased significantly.
 - Those skilled at 'spellcraft' will no longer have trouble with low/mid
   components.
 - The 'deep focus' skill is no longer about studying, but more about
magic. See HELP SKILL DEEP FOCUS.

  PALADINS:

 - The 'freedom' spell will now remove the affects of holy word.
 - The 'beseech' skill used without arguments will show a list of valid
   options.
 - The 'slam' skill should work more often, and always on immobilized
   targets.

This was a lot of work, it would not have been able to happen without
the high level of dedication from our team who have done a tremendous
job all wipe long. Please take the time to thank the following people
  when you have a chance:

Most importantly Anista and Kholos who have been doing so much for the
game this last wipe and especially in the rush up to starting this new
  wipe.
This list of changes and additions would be much
          shorter without them.

Thank you Aristox for continuing to help guide us and do the hard jobs
  nobody else can do.
Thanks as always to Adepali for supporting us in code and who also has
even more surprises in store for us yet this wipe, just you wait.

Big thanks to the rest of the wipe crew who helped with many tasks:
                 Alecto, Cinas, Kafilat, Lloth, Loopley

The game takes a lot of effort and these are the people who have done
all the work, but we are nothing without you jerks as well, and we
thank you for continuing to play this game and help us to guide and
   shape it throughout the years.
To those of you returning from a few days away or a few months away,
welcome back. To those of you returning after many years, welcome back
and please reach out to the staff for help getting reacclimated to the
game, so much has changed, but so much is still the same.

    Thanks for playing,

    May you all die.

Hello Kam,

I'd love to 'meet' you and the team sometime and discuss the game, how things are going etc!
Perhaps I can help out somewhere too.  It would definitely be interesting and fun to be involved again somehow after all these years.  The code was C when I was working on it, but years ago when I touched base I believe it was moved more over to C++.  I'm very curious what the state of it is now!

Please feel free to reach out here or by e-mail.  Good luck with the wipe and hope to see or hear from you soon

Any chance we could have those help files posted, like on divinity?  Just a little something to tide us over till the start of play. Looks good!

Thanks to all those who have worked hard to make this game possible. I know we all will have our individual grips and complements about some changes. Overall I look forward exploring the new changes and additions to the game.

Thanks Again

Fly/wb rank was beloved. Steel skin was mandatory because shit hits hard as hell now and spamming brass or other prep 183756393 times sucks.
